WASH Quartet

Game

The WASH Quartet is a version of the Austrian card game ‘quartets’, designed by Games with a Heart and MetaMeta to playfully educate its audience on water, sanitation and health issues. Previous iterations have been widely tested in Greece (2022), Uganda (2021), Yemen (2020) and Ethiopia (2018), and have been released in multiple languages, including Amharic, Arabic, English, Greek, Kakwa and Spanish

Rules

The game can be played with 3 to 4 players. The goal is to collect as many matching series of cards, or ‘quartets’, as possible. Players take turns asking the other participants for missing cards from their categories (for example “Do you have the ‘Use water and soap’ card from the category Clean Hands?”), which leads to an entertaining and educational experience.

Info

The game has been tried out in numerous settings around the globe, with further improvements made from the feedback received from the participants in before, during and after these trials. For example, in Yemen the game was tried out for the International Handwashing Day with Save the Children Yemen whilst in Uganda the game was tested together with GIZ Uganda and the focus lay on caregivers and mothers of the local communities and thus both a caregiving and breastfeeding category were created and included. Recently, during trials on refugee camps in Greece with EuroRelief, the WASH Quartet was tested with an audience of a variety of nationalities and cultures at English classes conducted at the camp.

Game

A promotional journey of hygienic practices for 3 to 4 players, Fly Over is a simple game that has the players compete with the game itself to be the first to finish the round. Will the players be able to reach the end of the labyrinth before the dirty fly does?

Rules

A game played by 3-4 players, Fly Over allows the cooperative race for the finale against the dirty fly by rolling a dice and advancing their piece when the side lands on that of the person, yet when it lands on the fly it is the opposing piece that gets to move! When the players arrive at one of the four mazes, they get to answer a knowledge-based question – if answered correctly, they may continue. The Players win if they arrive back at the start before the Fly does!

Farmer’s Journey is a board game for two to four players where it is encouraged to find the best ways to run their livestock farm and gain as much livestock as possible. Instead of finishing the course as swiftly as possible, the players endeavor to stay on the board as long as they can by utilizing positive shortcuts and attempting not to land on any of the negative events that might have them skip more of the board. Moreover, the WASH Journey is an experimental adaptation of Farmer’s Journey that has been tried out on Lesbos, Greece.

Rules

This game for 2-4 players is played by taking turns, rolling a dice to progress along the path, collecting points in the form of animals and agricultural products. Uncontrollable events on some tiles can affect the player’s journey, however! The player that reaches the end of the board with the most points is the winner.
